Rain – sweet sweet rain
Posted on Friday 23rd March 2007
At last the heavens have opened and we have finally had some rain today. The lawns are looking a lot greener and it has dropped the air temperature nicely. This is the first time it has rained properly since I arrived almost 2 months ago. Sure it had “rained” a couple of times before, but I don’t consider drizzle that evaporates before hitting the pavement as rain. In a water poor country this is literally manna from the skies and in keeping with my roots I stood out in it gratefully. Hopefully this marks the end of the summer and the accompanying oppressive heat. I know a few of you have been a bit jealous of the fine weather here but, like many things in life, you won’t miss rain till there isn’t any.
The drop in temperature will also help gym sessions. Yesterday it got up to 33 degrees with high humdity. As Mark noticed, our gym has evaporative cooling rather than proper aircon. When it’s hot and dry the system works well and cools the gym efficiently, however when it’s humid the system is next to useless. Hence doing the 10km rowing challenge yesterday was a real struggle. My heart rate got up to my predicted maximum (191 bpm) during the 1000m sprints, which might explain why I didn’t feel too good at the end!
The cats are feeling more comfortable too. In the past couple of days they have been lying on the cool slate floor and panting – a sign they are overheating and a little worrying in cats. Now I’m even more glad that we chose a house with proper aircon as it has made the middle of the day pleasant. Mmmmm …. recirculated air!

Hi Ric sorry left no replies spending to much time down the gym you did well doing your 1000m id be ill at the end.For 2months to have no proper rain and have descent weather your lucky summer cant come quicker for me well the clocks alter tonight so thats a start.Anyway hope you & reagan are ok and will hear from you soon
hi Both,
Good things always come in 3′s. You have Cats (let me at the ghastly curtains), you have rain and you have each other. Glad to here that the atmospheric conditions are getting better from the exercise perspective. I guess the Cats will settle in (they are pretty resilient creatures) although they may need sone help with the hair loss. It looks like all is well with you both as it is with us all here. Your next post is eagerly awaited..
Catch you later
