Don’t Know What You Got Till It’s Gone

I think both Cinderella and Joni Mitchell had it right. This is not intended as a moan or even a rant, but more an encouragement not to take things for granted.
Moving here has caused me a conflict of sentiments. On the one hand coming here has been a good way of making a fresh start. It’s too easy to get settled into a comfortable rut, and become oblivious to other options in life. Being in Adelaide has opened up some new possibilities and spurred me to try new things and get out a bit more. In Leicester we were rather lazy and insular with our lives revolving around work and the gym. Whereas since arriving we have been to festivals, sporting events and wine tastings.
However on the other hand leaving many things behind has made me appreciate for the first time that we had many good things in Leicester. I miss friends and the sense of community we had at LFE. It’s also the little things like personalised mugs and a pinboard of tickets, miscellania and trinkets. I now think I left too many personal objects behind and am now regretting making too clean a break of things. It was, at the time, intentional to rid myself of accumulated clutter both mental and physical. In retrospect I think people still need a sense of continuity and links to their past.
So rather than drifting through life not noticing what’s around you, take a fresh look and work out what’s important. Many apologies if this post is too saccharine, but this blog is about sharing my experiences with you all!
