I’ll see you all next year

But only for a brief visit as I will be here till 2009.
Good news all! The Royal Adelaide Hospital have offered me a registrar post on their intensive care unit from February next year until 2009. This is a great relief as it means I will avoid whatever half-baked employment scheme follows the existing failed MMC/MTAS system back home. For the next couple of years I am happy to be away from British hospitals as it seems the NHS is in complete meltdown, and won’t survive in its current incarnation.
More good news is that next year’s post has training status too, so will keep me on track to get formally qualified. It will probably be reasonable to finish my training here, and then consider returning to the UK as a consultant, hence avoiding the chaotic training system there.
Obviously the downside is I won’t be returning to Blighty for a while, so will have to stay in touch from afar and let you share our lives here vicariously. I do intend to come back for a holiday and spend a month or so in the UK in the middle of ’08. This means I may have to beg for places to stay and ask the LFE guys to get me a stack of free passes so I can join you again.
I look forward to seeing you all and the grey skies of England again!
