The change
Posted on Sunday 27th May 2007
The last time I was in Australia was February 2005, and arrived in the same month this year. Understandably I had come to the assumption that the sun blazed dawn till dusk every day with enough intensity to melt lead.
Now autumn is well and truly here and things have changed. The climate is now temperate and far more pleasant. Cycling into work is quite appealing on a crisp, cool morning. We’ve even had regular drizzle and showers, which has been welcomed to break the unremitting drought of the past 5 years. There was a threat of severe water restrictions, but these should not be necessary. At the moment it feels much like an English summer – mostly warm and dry but punctuated with enough rain to keep the lawn green.
As an aside I am in the process of writing an article on Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation. In the UK it seems to matter more how many times your name appears in print, rather than whether you are actually good at the job or not. Therefore I thought it would be appropriate to bulk out my CV. In case anyone is thinking of doing something similar – then don’t bother. It’s a pain in the arse trying to write a coherent document, and then having to go through endless cycles of revisions and rewrites – mine is on the 10th draft now! I’m starting to lose the will to finish this thing, and might just submit it in current state. If it does get published I’ll post a copy on here and you can all critique when it’s too late to change!

poor you – i think ravin will give you advice on re-writes and re-submissions!
