“but mostly, it’s the place where all our stuff is.”
I know how she feels, as our house has been decidedly empty except for the furniture we bought on arriving. However a home is made by the little personal touches that make it look and, more importantly, feel lived in. At long last our posessions have finally arrived from England. It only took the delivery company 5 and a half months!
I won’t grumble too much as we can now make Brown Street ours. A while back I worried about having left too many things behind, but on unpacking boxes I’m now thinking we brought some things unnecessarily. For example I seem to have packed a dozen empty CD cases! Now quite why I thought I needed those, especially when they can be bought very cheaply here, is beyond me. Fortunately all of the delicate electrical equipment seems to have survived the trip, and I have setup the home cinema system and my baby, the desktop computer. Once the artwork is on the walls and we have put everything away, I will keep my promise of posting some more photos of the house.
This site has been a bit quiet of late as I have been on-call again, and don’t really have the energy to contribute anything at the end of a long day. Work has been busier than usual lately with good reason. The South Australian state government has proposed closing the unit I am currently working in as the local health services are centralised and down-graded. In order to prove that we still serve a purpose the team having been keeping our unit as full as possible at all times. We are hoping that if we show how busy and productive we are, there might be a rethink regarding the imminent closure. Also it will be difficult for them to close a ward full of patients! Don’t worry as my job is safe as the closure won’t be until next year at least. Hopefully there will still be work here in Adelaide once the dust settles, as I’m not about to move in a hurry, after the hassle of this last one!

Surprised to know that it took so long for your items to arrive at Aus. 5 months is a long time and I dont exactly remember what I had in Leicester. I am glad that I did not bring in my stuff.
I have bought most of the things here and like you said they are not that expensive.
