After my initial good experiences with Vista on a second attempt, I have been burnt again.
Vista broke again and left me unable to log-on and recover the system. Even trying a reboot from the Vista DVD didn’t help as it still wouldn’t let me get access to my user account and hence repair the system.
Fortunately [...]

To counter fears over becoming a stick-in-the-mud last Saturday I dusted off my love of good house music and went clubbing with a friend from the gym. Even though I haven’t been to an all-nighter for at least 7 years they never change. The same old mix of guys showing off, girls showing off and [...]

A while back I commented on becoming old and boring. It may be more true than I originally thought.
We live close to a major arterial called Port Road. It connects the Adelaide CBD with our suburb, leads past the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (i.e.: where I work) and onto Port Adelaide. It runs as a straight [...]

If you remember, a couple of months ago I finished writing my review article and submitted it to one of the local intensive care journals. Unfortunately they have declined to publish it, so we are having another stab with another local journal. Failing that, we’ll have to keep trying others until it gets accepted.

Last week I grumbled about having the ‘lergy and many thanks to those of you who wrote genuinely sympathetic replies rather than the cynical abuse I probably deserved. Fortunately it has passed, sleep patterns have been regained and all is well in the throat department.

Something truly revolutionary in the world of commerce has happened today.
Normally the producer dictates the price of the item and the consumer pays it. In some scenarios there is potential for haggling, but generally the cost is set by seller. Today the tables have been turned. Radiohead have released a new album “In Rainbows” and [...]

The microcosm of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Intensive Care Unit has become very politically contentious lately. News was released earlier this year that the state government is planning to close our department and amalgamate it with the unit from the Royal Adelaide Hospital when the new city hospital is completed in 8 years. In lieu [...]

In the past few days I’ve developed pharyngitis and rhinitis. It’s been bad enough that I have a constantly blocked nose and a raw throat. The worst symptom is the choking sensation I get while in bed at night. This has had a significant adverse effect on my quality of sleep. The night before last [...]
