Summer is officially here and it’s getting hot. It’s been over 40 degrees a couple of times now and due to get hotter. Global warming definitely feels like it has kicked in as we have had almost 2 weeks of continuous sunny days and there is no sign of the end of this. I’m sure some of you back home will be jealous, but there is nothing pleasant about these conditions when they persist like this.
We’ve been running the aircon to keep comfortable but this is failing to work satisfactorily when it gets really hot. While there is much to like about this house, it’s lack of environment consideration is not one of them. We have no means of collecting rainwater, a common feature here, so our lawn is starting to die in the arid conditions. My main gripe is the lack of insulation. Unlike our house in Owen Close this one has many large single glazed windows, is a single brick skin construction and poor loft insulation. Therefore it behaves like a greenhouse and becomes hot very quickly. The aircon does it’s best but is occasionally unable to keep up with the heat.
This has become a bit too much for us to tolerate so we are on the hunt for a new house. The move is also motivated by wanting to be closer where I am working next year and our desire to be nearer to amenities. We currently live in a dense residential area poorly serviced with shops and cafes. Our intention is to live in North Adelaide which is far more cosmopolitan and has more to offer. I’ll post details and pictures as and when we find somewhere suitable.

well you are lucky to enjoy the nice weather that awaits you still not so good here
