Crossing the Fourth Wall

As the year comes round again it is time once more for the Fringe Festival to hit Adelaide. As last year, we made a point of catching the Street Theatre and Buskers Competition. I have always enjoyed street shows as they aren’t polished, yet require a degree of skill not needed in the controlled environment of a theatre house. The performers have no guaranteed audience or income, so it is quite a gamble to pin one’s living on this genre.
Tonight was a special moment as both Regan and I were invited by the performer to participate in a mime theatre show. We were given props made of balloons and encouraged to act roles directed by a clown mute! I think we put on a good show and certainly got plenty of laughs and cheers. Please have a look at the busker’s website – one Pedro Tochas – as he was one of the best and most original I have ever seen.
It certainly made a change being part of the show instead of just watching it. It would have been nice to have seen our performance – I’m sure we looked pretty silly, but I suppose that was probably the intention!
