Left (out) in the cold

Yesterday our boiler (hot water service in Strine) gave up the ghost. To start with I thought a power surge had simply tripped the breaker switch. However on switching back on there was a loud bang from the boiler followed by the breaker sparing me from electrocution by flicking off again.
So we are now without hot water. Fortunately Australian homes generally don’t have hot water central heating so we’re not going to get cold, but we’re reduced to the cold shower treatment for the next couple of days.
It helps having an obliging landlord who has already arranged an engineer to come out on Mon for it’s repair or replacement, but in the meantime I hope our kettle doesn’t follow suit as it is the only means of heating water in the house.
This is a lesson in coping as we do take what comes out of the hot tap for granted. When we lived in Owen Close we had our boiler serviced yearly - now I know why.
