I have just installed a copy of Microsoft Office 2007 onto my laptop. So how much did this software cost me? £300 perhaps, the RRP for Standard or Small Business Edition; or maybe even as little as £70, the RRP for the Student and Academic Versions. The latter doesn’t sound too bad, but these are [...]

As mentioned yesterday, I went to Melbourne today for a symposium on ExtraCorporeal Membrane Oxygenation. While not an expert in this field, I was formerly an ECMO Fellow at Glenfield in Leicester so have more than just a passing knowledge of the subject. As such, I was asked to chair the session on the use [...]

Also known as aerophobia, aviatophobia or aviophobia. I thought I’d share one of my (many) weaknesses – an aversion to flying. This may come as a surprise to some of you, but I am one of the many people who suffer this affliction. So far I have managed to get by simply by avoiding air [...]

First off, apologies for the prolonged delay in updating this site. Telstra broke our phone line last Weds and it has taken them 5 days to get it operational again. This also meant disruption of our internet access as it is piped down the same line. Anyway, we’re back up and running again. Just in [...]

Please feel free to sing along with the Monty Python song. As I’m sure you can guess, this posting is not about that iconic meat product, but rather the noxious disease of the internet. I’m now all signed up for the retrieval service, have completed the orientation, and will be going out on my [...]

Apologies for the lack of activity and updates. My life is somewhat hectic currently what with 1 full-time and 1 part-time job, learning to dive, going to the gym and trying to revise for next year’s exam. When I do have a free moment it is generally spent in “flop” mode hence neglecting this site. [...]

There are a number of reasons people commonly give when welching out of doing Pump. BodyPump makes women bulk up. This is utter rubbish as women only have low levels of testosterone which is the hormone that allows men to build muscle bulk. Instead Pump tends to lower bodyfat levels which makes muscles more conspicious. [...]

As you will remember I was asked to take on the role of Senior Registrar shortly after starting at the Royal Adelaide Hospital. In many ways this has been a double-edged sword. On one hand it is a rewarding role as I get the opportunity to flex my decision-making skills with the safety net of [...]

Nothing quite like it. Please forgive the bastardisation of Lionel Bart. Summer is finally over and as the cold fronts come in we have finally been getting some much-needed rain. It is interesting that the plants that appeared to die during the hot months are now lush. One downside however is having to cycle through [...]
