Air on a R string
Posted on Friday 6th June 2008
Air - this represents the flight to Melbourne and back I took today. While not entirely enjoyable, and a little choppy coming back into Adelaide, I coped and wasn’t too tachycardic on return to terra firma.
R - this stands for research. Recently I was invited to become an investigator for the DORINOS3008 trial. This will be a major multicentre Phase 4 trial continuing on from a recent successful safety study. This forthcoming study will aim to show superiority versus an existing anitbiotic in treatment of hospital-acquired pneumonia in ventilated patients. I was in Melbourne today for the investigator’s meeting to be briefed on the trial aims and protocols.
String - this is about adding extra strings to my bow. While I won’t get my name in the authors list I may get an honourable mention in the small print. All the same I can still add this to my CV as being an investigator for an international trial. It’s all about making a distinction between you and everybody else, and all these additional activities may be time consuming but will hopefully pay off in the long run.
