On the homeward leg
Posted on Tuesday 16th September 2008
It’s almost a month since we left Australia and our stay in the UK is coming to a close. We’ve left Leicester now and are on the way back to Guildford via Kettering.
We had a good time catching up with the many friends, some almost family, in Leicester. It is a testament to the power of e-communication that we haven’t lost contact completely, and managed to co-ordinate the lives of many busy people to meet up. This included a couple of gym sessions to remind me how much my cardio fitness has slipped in the time I’ve been away. Some of this is down to my rota but much due to the lack of motivation from not being part of a training group anymore.
We also had some good luck with the weather and were able to sit out in the garden at Hawkesbury Road. Having lived there and put a bit of effort into green-fingered maintenance it was nice to spend a little time with no particular agenda other than enjoying a lazy weekend afternoon.
We also couldn’t come to Leicester without having what the city is famous for – curry. A trip to our old favourite restaurant brought back many more memories of meals there. It was a staple for many years that anytime visitors came up we would always take them for a curry as being a representative meal out. How strange that we should now be on the receiving end of this tradition. Speaking of dining out, we met up with the HaleySharpe regulars at O’Neills on Guidhall Lane to remind Regan of many power-lunches with her colleagues.
In a couple of days time we will be heading back down South for the final part of our holiday. This will be punctuated on Friday by a jaunt into London to catch up with the final few people left on the list. Then it won’t be long till we have to board the flying toothpaste tube for the return leg. Time has certainly flown but we are picking up many photos and memories to take back. Tune in later for the final installments …

I hope you get a chance to see Anthony and Marie in London.
