Second to last and second to none

It’s now almost 24 hours till we have to leave England yet again and yesterday was our penultimate day but also one of the most memorable, hence the title.
We woke early as the hire car had to dropped back, battled the abysmal Guildford rush hour traffic and then headed into London. There was time for a quick caffeine hit at Waterloo station before we got on the tube in the direction of Holborn. It has been some time since either of us had visited the British Museum, and since we had a few hours spare, it was the perfect opportunity to take in some history, including the Rosetta Stone.

We also spent some time in the Greek section looking at the Elgin Marbles, and the Egyptian section looking at all the mummies, as I remember seeing these as a child. We share a common trait with the Late Dynasty Egyptians in our attention to cats, theirs because they were likened to gods, ours because we are their servants.
Then it was a quick stop at Covent Garden to see some street theatre, one of my favourite performance media, and lunch before heading to the South Bank to meet up with our London friends. I would like to think we did rather well managing to pack six reunions into six hours. Much news was exchanged and, of course, a fair bit of drink was consumed too. All told it seems everyone is doing well, even if they aren’t necessarily on their Plan As either. A special thanks to all of you who came out to see us yesterday, we had a great time catching up, and hope you did too – even though many of you wound up talking to people you’d never met before.
Today is going to be a quiet day to prepare for the return leg. We’ve booked into a swanky hotel in Singapore (as it wasn’t that much more expensive than the sleazy ones) and will polish off the few remaining items on the agenda while there. A quick message may appear courtesy of the BA lounge free wi-fi. Otherwise you will next hear from us from our balcony overlooking the Singapore Marina.

Guys,
Lovely to see you again and to also meet your friends. You both look well and happy and look forward to seeing you back in Adelaide.
Of course, this is a facade of sincerity, and all of the above is a lie. However, I respect that this is a family website, so I choose not to write something that is more appropriate to what I am thinking…..
With Love,
Anthony & Marie
