A Round-up of 2008
Posted on Wednesday 31st December 2008
Since I did one last year and a lot has happened since, it’s time to do a recap again and celebrate all of our achievements. So without any further ado, this year I:
- moved from the Queen Elizabeth Hospital to the insanely busy ICU at the Royal Adelaide Hospital
- started doing inter-hospital Retrievals
- went in a helicopter for the first time
- got dunked in a pool to learn how to get out of that helicopter in an emergency
- have been to 13 rural hospitals and travelled around 5000km around South Australia while working for MediFlight
- became a Clinical Lecturer with the University of Adelaide
- was invited to chair a session for the first Australian ECMO Symposium in Melbourne
- had my first journal article published and a second followed (with thanks to Ravin for all the hard work)
- started my formal research project, a clinical trial into the use of potassium in intensive care
- have started to work towards my Fellowship exam next year
- took up scuba diving and obtained my Open Water and Advanced qualifications
- moved to a new gym to keep up my obsession with BodyPump
- tried a new class – BodyBalance – and become more concious of my core (to offset the inevitable spread that awaits in years to come!)
- completed my Terry Pratchett collection
Regan has also had a good year with:
- finding her feet at Exhibition Services
- being offered a promotion to a more prominent role
- taking on a key role within the South Australian chapter of Museums Australia
- going to yet more international Interpretation conferences
- employing a personal instructor to stay in great shape
- currently being in training to join Lance Armstrong on the Tour Down Under (though obviously not anticipating completing the Barossa stage in the same time as him)
We had an interesting 2008 including:
- moving house to North Adelaide
- hosting my family on their first trip to Australia
- celebrating 8 years together
- our prodigal trip back to the UK to see you all and spend some back in the ol’ country – and it was really great, so thanks those who made time to catch up with us
- spending time in our favourite city – Singapore
- buying a Wii and being nagged on a regular basis by the WiiFit
I hope you have enjoyed reading all about it on here. Best wishes for the New Year!

Happy new Year folks – oh, and happy birthday for tomorrow, Rick!
Happy New Year to you both and Happy Birthday Rick… May next year be as fruitful at the last.
Cheers
Happy New Year Rick, and all the best to Regan… and Happy Birthday Old fella! What a year of different “stuff” may 2009 see you both happy, healthy and in control of your Wii :-))), I am watching time fly by before heading back to far north queensland next week.
PS: You should send me a copy of your first completed article… is it the ECMO one I proof read such a long time ago (in 2007)??
