You just have to look

Apologies in advance as this posting is going to be a tad saccharine and sentimental. In this world there is a great deal of ugliness both in terms of what humans do to this planet and each other. From time to time there are rays of light in the gloom. The important thing is to keep looking.
One such example is the view we had from the helicopter on the way out to Peterborough this morning. The cloud cover was fairly thick and layered up to about 5000ft. This is in the upper normal operating altitude for the helicopter so for most of the way we flew just above the cloud-tops. It’s an unusual visual, almost surfing along through the “waves” that the clouds form.

The photo doesn’t really do it justice, but suffice to say this was one of the most striking things I have seen in some time – all courtesy of Mother Earth.

Years ago (as a callow youth) I had an evening where I thought things were really bad. I took a walk outside and looked up at the brilliance of the stars in the perfectly clear night. The sheer beauty and scale of it all put things into perspective. Ever since then whenever the stupidity of humanity raises its head I always go and look at the stars. The beauty of simple physics never fails to inspire me.
nice. unlike the yob that boiled a kitten over here a few days ago.
