Bombardment

A slightly obscure Simpsons reference to My Fair Laddy – give yourself credit if you recognise it.
The title is appropriate to how I’m feeling at the moment. With exam practice, practical session, reading textbooks and guidelines to remember, there is little room left in my brain for more information. Therefore I felt some heartsink at the thought of doing yet another course. Today we were sent by our employers on a “Crew Resource Management” training session.
The ethos behind this is to enable the aircrew and pilots to understand the knowledge and limitations of the medical team, and vice-versa. This way everybody on board the aircraft knows what they can reasonably expect and get from the other people around them. It is also acting as a team-building exercise to break down some of the inherent boundaries between the medical and non-medical personnel. Fortunately both us and the aircrew tend to be a pretty friendly bunch and, as a result, we know many of each other by name already. It helps that I have been working in retrievals for a year already, so have been exposed to a variety of colleagues.
It has meant a couple of days away from work, as a break, and I’m keen to get back in the air again. I do understand the rationale for this sort of course, but much of the material is self-explanatory. I’ll be back on duty on Friday, so will hopefully be tasked with more jobs.
