… a shiny new car. With apologies to any Moody Blues fans.
Well over a year ago I promised myself a new car. Then exam preparation stole my life, and I postponed the promise of that new car, holding it as an incentive to pass. Well, now that obstacle has been hurdled, I have honoured the agreement and our new car is on the way.
Initially I was torn between 5 vehicles – Audi S3, FPV F6, HSV Clubsport, Impreza WRX-STi and Lancer Evo X MR. All have similar performance figures and cost about the same. However, one by one I whittled down the list. The F6 went because it’s essentially a re-skinned 10 year old car, the Clubsport went because it is a Vauxhall, the Evo went because it doesn’t come as a manual, and the Audi reluctantly went because they have had to detune it badly for the Australian climate.
Which only left the STi. Although previous iterations have been nothing more than street-legal rally cars, the current one is far more civilised. However it is still no slouch and we’re talking about a 4-wheel-drive car that can do the 0 – 60mph sprint in well under 6 seconds. Obviously I will faithfully stick to the speed limit, but hopefully at some point will be able to take it to a track day and find out how much performance this car is capable of.
We’re expecting delivery some time in early December, but in the meantime here is a sneak preview:
