We Are Family

I got all my sisters with me.
Well not any more. Mine flew back to England late last week after spending a couple of weeks with us. She and my parents came out for their biannual visit just before Easter, and we still have them for another week.
Hopefully we have been good hosts and showed them much of what our home has to offer. We have, of course, done the wineries and eateries round the city. In part, they have done us a favour by using many of the vouchers from our Entertainment book. Another boon was in giving us an excuse to try some different restaurants for a change.
Having them here has reminded me of what we’ve left behind. Worry not, this isn’t going to be a sentimental whine with a side of nostalgia. However, it has forced me to consider that, despite creating a life for ourselves here, we must not forget that we still have many links to the UK. Right now, going back would be counter-productive especially since I am within a year of becoming established as a specialist. In many ways it’s a pity we can’t transplant aspects of our English and Australian existences into the same locale. Wishful thinking I know.
As a temporary fix for any residual homesickness, we will be returning to the UK later this year. Our anticipated time-frame will be the last week of August to second week of September. I am in the process of getting annual leave booked now my new contract has been issued. Exact dates and an itinerary will follow in due course.

Keep us posted…now permanent in library job (thank God!) and planning my annual leave around the same time!
I’ll get my Fez and Red Satin smoking jacket dry cleaned in preparation.
