I feel the earth move

Under my feet. Credit to Carole King or Martika depending on which version you like better.
Another new experience for me. To start with I thought an unusually heavy freight train was passing on the nearby rail-line. Such an occurrence is not uncommon, and the bigger ones can rattle our windows a little. But this was entirely different.
Instead, Adelaide experienced an earthquake. These occur not infrequently here, since Adelaide sits on a fault-line, but the majority are so mild that they are barely felt. Or mistaken for heavy goods traffic. But there was no missing this one and it was an eerie feeling having the whole house shaken around us.

It’s certainly the first earthquake I’ve experienced and unique for someone from a nation that sits in the middle of a tectonic plate. With all the tsunamis, hurricanes, earthquakes and, now, volcanic eruptions, it seems like nature is rattling the sabre just a little. All the Gaia theorists must be getting very excited.
