About Me
Last Updated: Thursday 14th June 2007
I’m Rick, a conflicted left-leaning conservative (please note that is with a small c).
Towards the middle of 2006 I realised that the prospect of finding a worthwhile job in the UK as an anaesthetist was becoming increasingly unlikely. Faced with imminent unemployment I applied for work in Australia and was offered a job quite quickly. So I packed my bags and joined the growing number of professionals leaving the UK like rats off a sinking ship (let this be a lesson to Patsy Hewitt et al - if you don’t value your people, they will leave).
“So why Australia?” you might be asking. Well my partner hails from Adelaide and I love Aussie wine, so it seemed a natural choice!
I will try to keep a reasonably regular record of my experiences and post pictures to the gallery. This blog is mainly intended for the friends and family we leave in Blightly.
I hope you like what you see - please leave some comments (just click on the “Comments” link beneath each entry). If you want to send me a message use my Contact Page

The leg splints sound horrible. Poor old you! Hope they are feeling much better now. I run nearly everyday and would be very upset if I injured myself - as I’m getting elderly now its more likely I guess. Plus I am naughty and usually don’t stretch, but least I have my good trainers now.
Hope the visa is sorted soon. All the faffing around doing the paperwork and sorting the bureaucrasy must be such a pain (more than the shin splints!) but it’ll be worth it in teh end.
Hope to speak soon.
Love
Sis

Enjoy your Christmas in the cold, because next year it will be hot.
You won’t need a coat, hat or gloves…but you will need light clothing, sunglasses and sunscreen.
A whole new experience awaits.
Looking forward to your arrival in the wide brown land.
Notice …I didn’t mention the cricket.
Cheers
Vicki
Thanks for the comments.
Still waiting on the visa, but I’ve already got the darkest sunglasses you can legally drive with!
